Woolhanger Manor on Exmoor in North Devon is approximately a 25 minute drive north east of Barnstaple, closer to Lynton on the North coast than Illfracombe to the West. If your looking to stay near by, Braunton is a little further, but a popular sea side resort for those visiting Devon or the South West in a short period of time.
Woolhanger Manor itself is located in the middle of the countryside on Exmoor, private would be an understatement, you have to drive over a mile along a half dirt, half tarmac track to even get to a B road which will then take you to the main route between Lynton, Barnstaple and Illfracome, and onwards to Woolacombe and Braunton. Weddings at Woolhanger Manor are therefore fairly exclusive and very private in nature, two huge on site cottages allow for bride and groom accommodation and some immediate family.
Weddings at Woolhanger Manor, in North Devon, can either take place fully on site in one of there three refurnished rooms, the grandest of which would be the Music Room, or alternatively Woolhanger can be used exclusively for the reception venue, as was the case on my last visit to Woolhanger Manor, as well as taking full use of the cottages in the morning for bridal preparations and evening accommodation.
From a photographic perspective, and my style in particular, the vast amount of space around the venue and inside is ideal, I particularly have taken a like to the long drive way and the Music room inside, fabulous for speeches and dancing pictures. When you go to Woolhanger you can understand how things have been thought about, the aligning reception garden to the cottages, the grand gates, long sweeping drive, patio and even down to the discret parking only meters from the reception garden. All in all a great venue for those born and living in the country as for others looking to get away from a busy city life.
