Whilst in Australia back in November, I took a trip to Fraser Island on the east coast just north or Brisbane, myself and Andy spent nearly a week on the Island cruising around in a 4×4 Landcruiser across sand dunes, through rivers, around forest tracks and in to the depth of the Island. Whilst enjoying the sun we got to swim in some of the freshest water in Australia; amongst the lakes of near PH 7 water of Fraser Island. It was in one of these lakes (Lake Mackenzie) that this underwater self portrait was taken.
Im not normally one for posting pictures of myself on my website and blog, in fact, I think this will be the very first time I have done so… but I wanted to share this one because it was one of those scenarios where a crazy idea just worked! So there I was swimming around this lake in the early morning sun, in the middle of a forest, on an island off the coast of eastern Australia and I thought, you know what I’ll take a picture.. :) – Well, truth be told there are lots of pictures from our Australia trip… Some of the island can be found here and some more I am looking to put up soon (including the wedding pictures from Byron Bay area).
Using a Canon G12 in an underwater housing held out in front of me, I launched up out of about a meter and a half of water and crashed back down in to the water and pressed the shutter as all the air bubbles from my splash were rising to the surface… 3rd attempt and here we are!
Hope you like. – Brides & Grooms: Who wants to give this a go ? :) – Perhaps in sunny Cornwall though.
