Travel Photography Preparations for Spain have begun for me now. In less then 3 weeks I fly out of Bristol to Murcia for 25 days in Spain. I decided I was going to take this trip back in December last year and have booked the whole of October off from any Wedding Photography commitments. Unlike earlier in the year when I travelled to Greece for a mini break that came about because I was shooting a destination wedding in Greece, this trip to Spain is almost totally non work related. When I say almost I mean that I am meeting up with a few other photographers in Murcia for the first couple days of my trip to photograph some models in and around some fantastic architecture – really looking forward to this.
After shooting these models, I am then embarking on a bit of a backpacking mission for 2 weeks before meeting up with my partner in Marbella, southern Spain, for a weeks holiday by the pool and on the beach. Obviously its the two week intervening time when I will be able to go and explore a country I have only previously seen as a tourist beach resort destination. Planned visits include Murcia, Malaga, Seville, Madrid and Barcelona, as well as a few not so known places in between these cities – that even I haven’t found yet. Just over a year ago I arrived back from a two week trip in Italy and used my iPhone for the majority of the picture taking, which resulted recently in this final product. This time, dependent on whether I can get my hands on the new iPhone5 before I go, I think I will be mainly shooting 35mm film. I did take a film camera to Italy and shot exclusively the trip on Black & White. This time however I intend on shooting exclusively on colour positive film such as Fuji’s Velvia, probably the 100 speed F type. Love the colours on these films at the moment and whilst I hear Fuji are going to cut back on film making again, I thought I would get in and see what I can produce while they are still readily accessible.
Minimal kit will be the aim of the game for the majority of the trip – I will be taking half my digital kit to Murcia with me for the first fews days shooting, after which I will be sending that kit home and have left for the rest of the trip my Nikon F5, 35mm f/2 & a 50mm f/1.4, alongside my iPhone of course, which I may shoot on Hipstamatic again or may try the VSCO app for the trip. Will probably decide on the flight out at 6am in the morning.
As I haven’t left yet I don’t have any pictures to include with this blog so I’ll end this blog with a few pictures from Google of places I intend to see.
