My name is Barney Walters, and besides photography my passions are skiing, F1 racing, Apple products and above all, travelling the world.

How did you get into wedding photography?

I have been a wedding photographer for just over 2 years, I starting shooting weddings after I met another photographer at a wedding of one of my relatives. We talked and it went from there…

Barclay House Wedding Photographer – James & Sarah

On the weekend of our so called ‘Indian Summer’, the 1st of October, it was time for the wedding of Sarah & James at Morval Church and then reception at Barclay House, near Looe, Cornwall. The long day of relentless glorious sunshine could not have gone down better with the bride, a little to hot and harsh for my liking, but who am I to complain. After the bombshell weather I experienced with Sarah & James on their pre-shoot, they certainly deserved it.

Wedding Photography at Leigh Court | Bristol Photographer | Cornwall

After publishing my last wedding blog of Chris & Kate’s wedding, I felt that I probably posted too many ‘posed’ pictures. I use the term ‘posed’ loosely because the only set up part is a mere suggestion, the rest is down to the couple. None the less, I have decided to insure this week that I choose a fair selection and reflect my ‘non-posed’ style with the odd ‘posed’ picture of the couple where convenient.

I recently sat down and flicked through a recent wedding I photographed and well over 80% of the final pictures given to the couple had very little involvement from myself. A good photographer and friend of mine once said ‘all I do, is make what you do, look good’ and I feel this is fitting for what I am trying to say. Therefore less than 20% of the pictures my clients receive are ‘posed’, obviously this would vary slightly depending on the communication I receive from the couple and what is planned with them for the day. However the principle remains.

Anyway, without any further distraction from the picture content here, these are a few pictures from a wedding last weekend of Greg & Jen at Leigh Court (http://www.leighcourt.co.uk) near Bristol. The mix of French and English quests (Greg being French born) was a great laugh, especially when it came to the multi linguistic speeches and a challenge during the group pictures.

Rill Estate Wedding Photographer | Devon Wedding Photography

Here are a few pictures from the wedding of Chris & Kate a few weeks ago, the weather was probably one of the most unsettled his year so far, however the odd shower during mid morning and early afternoon led to a largely clear late afternoon and evening. Both the ceremony and reception were held at Rill Estate (http://www.rillestate.co.uk/home/)

Chris & Kate were very energetic and a special mention to Kate who had to navigate herself in a very large dress. They had a great group of young friends that certainly brought the afternoon and evening alive.

I am enjoying clean and crisp images in either Black & White or a Sepia style at the moment, especially when it comes to the few minutes of posed pictures in the day, most of the set-ups of which are shown here. My so called ‘fly on the wall’ approach is still very much evident for the majority of the day.

Last week, the news of a ruff north coast in Cornwall and Devon reached me and so on Monday evening I travelled down to Watergate Bay near Newquay, arriving just after low tide at 18:30 hrs. Much to my personal disappointment the 12 foot promised was not quite realised, however during the following few hours I was there, a few rather large waves took me by surprise, one of which nearly engulfed my camera and tripod, luckily and not so luckily for my initial ideas, the waves were crashing a fair way off shore.

Italy on an iPhone | Wedding Photographer in Italy

I have been meaning to blog some of my travel pictures for a while, as some of you may know (previous blog post) I went travelling with just a 35mm Canon 1N and my iPhone. I did take a few pieces of clothing as well, but not a lot else, hand luggage only. I still need to scan in my negatives from the film but I thought I would get some of my iPhone pictures up.

The two weeks I spent in Italy, led me to shoot 12 rolls of 35mm and just shy of 600 iPhone pictures. Below is a selection of the final 75 frames that are my keepers from my iPhone. I not only used the same application, ‘Hipstimatic’, for the duration of the trip, but also shot every frame in exactly the same settings. I love the results, especially when you reach in your pocket and not a single person takes any notice of you. However they may think I am a bit of an idiot when they look down and see I have a large 35mm DSLR around my waist and am choosing to use an iPhone. Amateur!

Anyway here are a few of my pics from Rome, Venice, Pisa, Florence, Pompeii and Sorrento.
