Weddings in Helston, Cornwall, or wedding opportunities in Helston might appear a little bleak at first glance, the town is fairly populated and has several large industrial estates, however despite the industry and large supermarkets, Helston has, so far, held on to its high street, unlike many other Cornish Towns, with the exception of Penzance and perhaps the likes of Bodmin and St Austell which have all but fallen away. Looking beyond the town and immediate outskirts of industrial estates and housing, Helston is surrounded by open space on all sides, particularly to the South and East. Briefly; Helston is located to the very South of Cornwall, more southern and to the east of Penzance, no located on the A30 main route through Cornwall but instead South cross country from Truro or on the A394 between Falmouth and Penzance. Flambards, Gweek, Goonhilly and RNAS Culdrose are all near by, as is the seaside town of Porthleven.

“Helston is a hilly market and former stannary town where smelted tin had to be weighed for taxation (hence the name of Coinagehall Street). It was also an important port until the formation of the Loe bar which cut off the estuary from the sea. This is now the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall with surrounding walks forming part of the National Trust’s Penrose Estate. The town is famous for its annual Furry (or Flora) Dance held on 8th May. St Michael’s Church has the grave of Henry Trengrouse who invented the rocket life saving apparatus having witnessed the loss of the frigate HMS Anson at Low Bar in 1807. Local attractions include Helston Folk Museum in the Old Butter Marker on Church Street, Flambards Village Theme Park at Culdrose Manor an the RNAS Culdrose Viewing Enclosure overlooking the largest helicopter base in Europe on Gweek Road.” – AZ
