Weddings in St Austell and around the St Austell area include venues such as The Vean, The Carlyon Bay Hotel and of course the iconic millennium built centre of the Eden Project. At Austell town itself is a busy one, the main road running through St Austell, the A390 from St Blazey to St Mewan and on to Truro can be fairly slow going with traffic, especially during typical rush hour times and weekends. St Austell has many shops, supermarkets, industrial estates, schools and a large housing population, after Truro it is one of the largest towns in Cornwall. Due to the size, the amount of acoomderation located in St Austell is handful to support any amount of wedding guests not hiring out a full wedding venue, there are many private B&Bs swell as high street names such as Premier Inn located in the area. For more intimate weddings the town and the surrounding areas is likely to have many halls, licensed pubs and also a Registry Office. However for those wishing for something a little more on site, their is of course the well known Carlyon Bay, on the coast just outside of St Austell to the south east.

Other small fishing and coastal towns with in a reasonable distance of St Austell and some Truro are; Gorran Haven, Mevagissey, Porthpean, Fowey, Ropehaven Cliffs, Polruan and a little further afield, Polperro and St Mawes.

“St Austell, a modern shopping centre containing all services, is the capital of the china clay district which developed alongside mining in the 19th century. China clay is formed from minerals of decomposed granite and is used in paper making, procleian and paint manufacture. It is founds in few places in the world and its extraction has turned the area to the north west of the town into a landscape of huge quarries and white spoil tips. The export of china clay from the ports of Fowey, Par and Charlestown is one of Cornwall’s principal industries. Wheal Martyn China Clay Heritage Center at Carthew provides information on the industry past and present. Other attractions include St Austell Brewery Visitor Center on Travarthian Road, Kids Kingdom on Albert Road and Ben’s Play World on Par Moor Road, Par. The compact and unspoilt Charlestown has square rigged sailing ships and the shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre on Quay Road. 2.5 miles north east of St Austell in a former china clay pit (accessed off the A391) is the Eden Project, a landmark millennium site comprising two plant conservatories or biomes, an Outdoor Landscape of 30 acres and a visitor centre. The Humid Biome is the worlds largest conservatory at 240m long and 55m high with 2,000 species of tropical plants and temperatures of up to 35 degrees C.” – AZ
