Over the past few years, we’ve had the pleasure to photograph a number of wedding celebrations at the Savile Club Wedding Venue situated in Mayfair, London. As you’ll see below it’s a beautiful building with plenty of character. The variety of spaces available make it a superb backdrop for an indoor London Wedding celebration.
Nearby you can find the small park of Grosvenor Square which the John’s and I visited for a few minutes whilst their wedding party moved upstairs for the wedding breakfast. By stepping outside for a few moments we were able to capture some photos of them both walking and this also enabled them to spend a few pleasant minutes together away from all the noise.
I’ll leave the main explanation of their extremely fun and energetic day to the words from John and the photos below…
Thank you for allowing us to capture your special day guys! We all had a blast.
Words from John and John…
How and why did you choose your venue(s)?
Choosing the right venue was for us simultaneously the most important and also one of the most straightforward aspects of our wedding. We didn’t want a destination wedding; we met and fell in love in London, we have our life here. It was important to us that the venue should reflect this, feeling meaningful to us by being emblematic of our everyday life in and love for the city. Of course, it had to be somewhere elegant and beautiful as well as familiar; and with John being a member of the Savile Club, architecturally striking yet intimate and based in Mayfair, it was a natural choice. So the venue was therefore decided almost immediately; only our choice of photographer came first!
What were your top one/three priorities in planning your wedding?
Our main priority for the wedding was having a day that succeeded in encapsulating us–our taste, respective personalities, and life together, that bore an inimitable imprint of our personal style. We wanted it to be formal with a suitable sense of occasion but also fun, the kind of day that we would remember forever and which would offer a brilliant time for our friends and families to come together and enjoy the best of life.
All the other priorities flowed from that–and it was pretty clear that the next most important element was the careful choice of vendors. We had seen the stunning results of your photography of other weddings, and contacting you was one of the first things we did when we began to plan our wedding in earnest. Equally important to us as the day being the way we wanted it to be was knowing we could capture and preserve this for the rest of our lives; and I had never seen wedding photography that captured the day and the people in it so vividly as yours.
Similarly, you pointed us in the direction of the fantastic Ben Foster for videography and looking back, I think we chose the final date around the both of your availability–which was I am happy to say one of the best decisions we made!
What one thing most surprised you about your wedding, or planning your wedding?
How much help was offered from amazing people in all quarters, from our families and friends to you and Ben, our fabulous florist, Brigitte, and our band, all of whom did so much to help with planning and make sure everything came off perfectly on the day. Planning a wedding yourself can feel a daunting task, and it makes all the difference in the world having incredible people to help with making sure all the minor details (and big ones too) come off as they should. We felt immensely privileged to be blessed with so many wonderful people (including the assistance of such brilliant vendors!).
If you could do it all over again, which one thing wouldn’t you change, and if anything, what one thing would you change?
I think it fair to say we both wish with hindsight we had written our wedding speeches further in advance than the night before the wedding!
In all seriousness, perhaps the most wonderful thing about our wedding now looking back (other than the incredible fact of being married!) is we can honestly say there isn’t a single thing we would change. Everything had a miraculous way of working out for the best and simply put, the day was the highlight of our life. The photography and videography you and Ben produced are more stunning than we could ever have hoped (and our expectations were set pretty high!), and we are immeasurably grateful for having you there to capture it.
A few lovely words about us from John and John…
“Barney was the photographer at our wedding; it was the first major wedding decision we made, and happily, also one of the easiest and the best. I had seen his photography of a friend’s wedding, and I had never seen wedding photography that so perfectly captured the joy and emotion of the day, that told such a vivid story. We knew we had to hire him for our wedding—and my word, we would struggle to put into words just how beautiful the finished photos are, and how much joy they have brought us. Barney is an artist, and he captured our day perfectly.”
