I have been longing to blog these pictures from our trip to Fraser Island, Australia back in November/December last year. A small backlog of personal pics has been building over recent months and I am finally getting around to processing them all and sharing them here. This selection of Fraser Island Photography on a G12 was shot solely with the combination of the Canon G12 compact, which can be picked up for as little as £200 second hand, coupled with an underwater housing, approximately £150 new. When planning the trip to Fraser Island we knew that the two biggest enemies to camera gear would be everywhere; salt water and sand, thus the protection on a G12 was the option we opted for, although in a few ‘safe’ areas we did crack out the D3’s.
The great thing about using the Canon was that it could simply be taken anyway and although being a little bit awkward to use at times, it certainly did a good job – even if I don’t like the compact style format.
The thing I liked most about using the Canon G12 in the housing was being able to play around with photographing water like I never really had done before, because in this scenario it didn’t matter if the camera got wet or even soaked – it was in a housing! – So thats why a lot of the pictures shown below are me simply experimenting with different angles of shooting water and being in the water. – The sunrise frames were particularly good fun at 0430 in the morning – although after seeing about 200 large jelly fish the next morning – the experience was not repeated :)
Looking through these pictures has come at a time when an old college friend of mine is currently out touring around Australia, as well as my best friend from childhood – so looking back at these pictures and watching there adventures on the social networks, just fills me with the need to go again. Australia – I will be back!

Wow! I love these shots, especially the colored water shot with the splashes of water and sun shining through in the background.
