St Mellion Golf Club Venue | Cornwall Wedding Photographer

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER ST MELLION

Despite living in close proximity to St Mellion International Hotel & Resort and the golf club it is located within, it was only a few weeks back that I had my first experience of actually looking around and photographing at the venue. I was at St Mellion to document a college graduation, but had a good scout around also for its wedding photography potential and after having a very pleasant experience with some of the staff, am now very much looking forward to being approached by someone to photographer their wedding at St Mellion. For a bit of geography; St Mellion is located just off the main A38 road that runs south west of Plymouth, into Cornwall and on to Liskeard and then Bodmin. St Mellion is lcoated about half way between Liskeard and Plymouth and can be reached. in about 15 minutes from both, with a slight detour off the main route and into some of the Cornish countryside it is located within.

As always with my wedding photography, I love the idea of space, weather it be empty streets in a city or countryside in Cornwall or the Lake District. Space is a key element to what I like to produce and St Mellion has this is ample supply, ‘set in amongst 450 acres of stunning Cornish countryside’ it surely has space to offer, but not just outside but inside also, large rooms with big glass fronted windows overlooking much of the surrounding countryside. Like many large wedding venues of this sort, St Mellion doe snot disappoint with a vast array of accommodation both in the main building and also outbuildings around the golf club. Good for guest accommodation and great for wedding photography potential.

The Cornwall Hotel Spa Wedding Photographer St Austell

The Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate located near St Austell is a great location for a wedding event and is full of wicked spots for most wedding photographers. The newly built Cornwall Hotel is still expanding and has great spa facilities, hotel facilities and of course some top class accommodation. I have been fortunate enough recently to photograph an intimate wedding at the Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate and look forward to working in the hotel and its grounds again with another couple soon.

The hotel itself is located just outside of St Austell in Cornwall, about 2o minutes from both Liskeard and Bodmin on the A38 and about a further 20 minutes from both Plymouth and Truro. The Cornwall Hotel is also only a few miles from the sea, fishing villages, local facilities and St Austell town itself, which has good but often busy links to the rest of the county.

Carbis Bay Hotel Wedding Photographer

Carbis Bay Hotel is an award winning hotel on the St Ives coast front, available for events including complete wedding packages. Carbis Bay Hotel is located just outside of St Ives, and only meters from Carbis Bay Beach. The hotel overlooks the beach and sea and on a clear day you can see across the water, Hayle. Carbis Bay Beach tends to a lot quieter than its more well known neighbour of St Ives, as this is true in the summer months also. The great thing about Carbis Bay Hotel from the point of view of a Wedding Photographer is that the logistics of going to the beach for some wedding pics is very easy – just a few meters walk!

Although locals are fully aware of the Carbis Bay Hotel, it is well hidden from most, but is a popular venue for weddings and many other functions year round. To be knowledge, Carbis Bay has an excellent reputation for weddings in the local area and can be either a non stop shop for your wedding ceremony, venue and reception, or as a stand alone reception venue with fine dining. The Hotel also has a good selection of hotel rooms, some overlooking the bay, for quest accommodation, and with it being just a stones through from St Ives and Hayle, there are also cheaper and a more wide choice of accommodation in the local area.

Hotels can sometimes be limiting in what they provide for the aspects of wedding photography, but with the proximity to the beach of Carbis Bay Hotel, the beach is almost part of the hotel! :)

The Greenbank Hotel Falmouth

The Greenbank Hotel Falmouth, is located within Falmouth and is easily accessible via major roads (by cornwall standards) that run off the A30 or A39 into Falmouth between Truro & Helston and via Redruth on the A30. The Greenbank is a popular wedding hotel venue in Falmouth and is a large hotel with many rooms available, long side a large conference style room with bar that can be converted into a Wedding Reception area. At the other end of the hotel is the main entrance to the Hotel alongside a lounge style bar. The restaurant, bar and wedding room all look out offer onto the Falmouth Estuary, the large room also has a balcony that can be utilised for evening fireworks or general fresh air. :)

Pendennis Castle Wedding Venue Falmouth Cornwall

Pendennis Castle is a fairly unique wedding venue to Cornwall because of its position overlooking the South Coast and its authentic look and feel takes you right back in time. The Castle itself makes for a very atmospheric wedding, the wedding room itself is the circular part at the back of the castle overlooking the bay and sea through small windows. The Venue is naturally very dark inside, and this I will admit was my first thought, but a few candles and some small lights around the open beams and the room is transformed into something you can’t experience in many places around Cornwall.

The Castle and associated buildings are owned and maintained by the English Heritage and are located on the hill side above Falmouth Docks on the South Coast of Cornwall, approximately 30 minutes from Truro. Also located nearby are many residential B&B’s throughout Falmouth attributed to the local tourist trade in the summer months, also there are one or two larger accommodation sites including The Greenback Hotel, also a wedding venue in the local area – and with my experience of a wedding at Pendennis Castle, The Greenback Hotel was combined to make the evening venue.

Another great aspect to Pendennis Castle is the vast open space on the outside of the fort and the long straight pathway leading up to the caste doors, although the Castle is fairly small in comparison to what your thoughts of a castle may be, the ground surrounding it, that is mostly flat and useable for pictures, drinks, confetti or other wedding activity, more than makes up for it. One consideration to make is the openness to the wind and very little shelter than the grounds have.

Trevenna Cornwall Wedding Photographer

Trevenna is an outstanding barn converted Wedding Venue very close to me in Cornwall. I shot a wedding as a Trevenna Wedding Photographer last year and have since photographed the venue in more detail and from a far for their new website. I just wanted to take this opportunity to both point out the advantages of this venue and also share a couple frames that I shot of it most recently last Autumn. Being a Cornwall Wedding Photographer, I see many different venues and locations throughout Cornwall and the South West. Trevenna and photographing weddings at Trevenna as a Wedding Photographer stands out as a great venue with surroundings hardly unmatched and a service most defiantly matched! :)

Trevenna is one of those venues that is just brilliant – the service, the staff, the views and the location all tick the boxes, if you’re looking for a small to medium, sized in the country wedding. With on-site accommodation and enough out of the way to create and keep your own scene, you really have privacy here. All this coupled with an extension marquee, driveway to the front, detached accommodation houses, two small bars, wedding suite and view to match all add up to a fairly impressive venue. And therefore it is my pleasure to be one of the recommended Trevenna Wedding Photographers.

So where is it? on my doorstep! Trevenna is located between the A30 and A38 near Colliford Lake and the small village of St Neot. More well known are the towns of Liskeard and Bodmin both at distances of about 15-20 minutes in the car, Launceston is about 30 minutes. I would love to shoot a couple more wedding here in 2013 & 2014 and look forward to hearing from a few couples who are thinking of getting married here. Unlike any other barn converted wedding venues, Trevenna has loads of open space surrounding it as you will see from the picture below.
