So 2013 is on the horizon, I’m sat awaiting my share of the wedding breakfast at the final wedding of 2012. What a year it has been. I am positive that in the future I will look back at 2012 as being one of those special years, although my third year as a wedding photographer, its probably the year I’ll look back on as the year I nailed what kind of photographer I wanted to be, and the year I really finished a portfolio, perhaps not polished, perhaps never polished in my eyes, but certainly completed.
Heads up, my starter of soup is here. They’re quick here at Buckland Tout-Saints.
Starter over and done with its time to reflect on 2012, My first ever and second ever destination wedding, firstly back in May in Greece and secondly at the end of November in Australia. I have been lucky that combined with shooting weddings for Harrera Images and under my only trading name as Barney Walters Photography, I have travelled not only abroad but the length and breath of the UK once again this year. Cornwall Weddings, Devon Weddings, Somerset Weddings, Dorset Weddings, Surrey Weddings, Herefordshire Weddings, The Midlands, Bristol, London, just about everywhere. I’ve been to my first Jewish Wedding with over 250 quests and also photographed my smallest wedding with just 15 guests. Also on the list of firsts is are my first Humanist Wedding and my first 2.0L car. :) (much better for all those motorway miles)
As well as travelling for weddings I have also been to Switzerland, France, Scotland, Spain & Singapore this year, with various friends and my beautiful partner. I have had the pleasure of meeting some great people both home and abroad, but particularly in Australia as well as all my wedding couples back home, past and present – its always great meeting so many different characters and personalities. Iv’e heard that as each year goes by you get wiser, I’m not sure by what quantity that can be measured, but if nothing else I’m 45 weddings wiser than I was this time last year.
As well as clients and couples, I have also been to a couple relaxed industry get togethers this year, meeting a few really inspiring people, some really friendly people and some people who have become good friends. One such event was in Spain, where I met some really keen enthusiasts and professionals alike who all grouped together to shoot two talented models in some beautiful locations around Murcia over a three day period. Good Fun!
Little break again. My roast Pork for main has arrived.
Roast well polished off and whilst I could continue writing all evening about the past 12 months, it would’t be very positive without looking forward at the next 12 months. Not so much travelling on the agenda – but I’m sure I will end up in a few places, not at least France and Switzerland for skiing in just two weeks with two of my best friends. My only real solid plan for next year is to focus more on my business and myself as a photographer, to continue to grow and move forward to meet my personal goals in the future. I have a couple exciting plans for additions to my repertoire – but not too much info on that for now.
By no intention of my own, I have managed to pick out exactly 100 pictures to sum up what 2012 has meant to me. Perhaps not completely – there are a few events more recently that I wont be able to include, likewise Iv’e kept out a few more personal things – but none the less I leave you with the remaining pictures as I do need to head back off to the wedding breakfast here and rig a light for the speeches, but before I do let me wish everyone I have had any meaningful contact with this year and anyone who is going to run in to me in 2013 as well as all those who simply follow my blog…
A Very Merry Christmas & Hopefully I will ‘click click click’ you soon :)
